A European rail operator was suffering increasing interference to their GSM-R network and suspected that the recent opening up of the adjacent 900MHz mobile spectrum bands to 3G technology might be at least partially to blame. B Consulting analysed the problem using laboratory measurements and having characterised out of band emissions, net filter discrimination and inter-modulation characteristics of the relevant transmitters and receivers, built a simple to use modelling tool to predict potential interference issues in the field.

About Us

B Consulting is an engineering based consulting firm that was founded in 2002 and is proud to have celebrated its 10th anniversary in November 2012.

In the early years the company was focussed on IP telephony and the convergence of voice & data and fixed & mobile networks. We supported operators, enterprises, vendors and public sector bodies in maximising the value that they could obtain from convergence. Our own internal communications are based on a SIP based open source IP communications platform to give the benefits of distance independent working.

With the large investments in 3G licences and infrastructure in the early 2000’s and the later explosion of mobile data across these networks driven by the consumer market for smart phones, our skills found a particular niche in the cellular and wireless telecommunications industries. More recently, with the increasing automation and control of transport infrastructures, we have established bespoke partnerships to specifically address the air and rail transport industries.

A third sector transport provider had just 3 months to introduce a new service to over 1200 clients in response to a tender award. Without adversely impacting existing services, the new service had to be defined rapidly and in detail, IT and back office systems and processes had to be put in place, and staff trained and recruited in time for a non-negotiable start date in the new financial year. In view of pressures on both timescales and budgets, B Consulting Ltd provided a highly focussed product and project management resource to enable just in time delivery of the required service.
